One location in Oklahoma was previously cleared by the FDA after confirming it had not served the recalled products to customers.

According to the FDA, Hilo initiated a voluntary recall on May 18. The agency, together with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are assisting the ongoing pullout.

No illnesses have been reported so far, but unvaccinated individuals who consumed the tuna in the last two weeks are encouraged to contact their health care provider/s and undergo post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent infection.

The prophylaxis consists of a vaccine for ages 1 to 40, or, ideally, a virus-specific immunoglobulin for those outside that age range.

Hepatitis A, which lasts from weeks to months, is a liver infection that may be acquired through ingestion of food or water contaminated by the Hepatitis A virus. As it is contagious, it may be passed on from an infected person to another who has not been vaccinated.

As per the CDC, symptoms of Hepatitis A infection include fever, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, clay-colored feces, joint pain and yellowish discoloration of the skin called jaundice. They usually appear two to six weeks after exposure.

Physicians recently warned against the dangers of consuming raw seafood, with one man suffering from anisakiasis after eating sushi at a Japanese restaurant.
